Local court dismisses complaint against Sonia Gandhi
New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) A city court today dismissed a complaint filed against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in connection with the Vice-Presidential polls.
Ravinder Kumar, the complainant, a practicing advocate and also the national president of Rashtriya Mukti Morcha (RMM), filed a complaint against Ms Gandhi for hosting a treat, described as dinner on Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at Kamal Mahal, Hotel ITC Maurya Sheraton, SP Marg, New Delhi.
According to the complainant, the treat was for garnering support for Mr Mohammad Hamid Ansari, who was the Vice Presidential candidate as proposed by Ms Gandhi.
According to the complainant, this treat constitutes an offence under Section 171 (E), that is punishment for bribery under Indian Penal Code.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sanjay Bansal heard the argument on the complaint and today ordered to dismiss the complaint on the basis of maintainability.
