Light and sound show to mark 1857 celebrations

Chandigarh, Aug 21 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today called for a concerted effort by all sections of the society to eradicate poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and social backwardness from the country.

Dr Kidwai stated this while speaking at the light and sound programme of the First War of Independence-1857 presented by Haryana Police at Madhuban in district Karnal.

The Governor said that India is a developing country which had achieved unprecedented progress in various fields. At present 36 per cent of the Computer Engineers in the world were from India.

He said: ''If we continue to maintain the steady progress, India would become one of the three economic powers of the world after forty years. We can achieve this target only if people live with communal amity and brotherhood.

He congratulated the labourers and farmers for their contribution in speedy progress of the state.
