Udaipur, Aug 21: The Chief Judical Court here has ruled that the Jain religious tradition of 'diksha' (initiation ceremony) of children is legal.

The court, while disposing of a petition filed against the initiation ceremony of four children into priesthood at Somand village in Gogunda tehsil on May 2 this year, said the religious practice is not in violation of any law of the land and is absolutely legal.

CJM Brajendra Kumar Jain in his order said Article 25 of the Constitution has given freedom to practice and propagate a religion and the Jain tradition of priesthood comes in the purview of the article and is therefore legal.

He also said for the age-old tradition has no age bar and observed that the petitioner intented to get publicity.
