Discovery Channel to show film on Delhi Metro
New Delhi, Aug 21: A film that captures the grandiose infrastructure of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), its efficiency and high standards of discipline will be shown by the Discovery Channel this weekend.
Giving details about the programme, Mr Deepak Shourie, the Managing Director of the Discovery Channel, said the film, ''24 hours with the Delhi Metro'' tells the story of India's most ''ambitious project after Independence'' that has come to symbolise Delhi itself. It also illustrates how much relief it has brought to Delhiites, by reducing the pollution levels and also by rescuing them from traffic snarls. That it is disabled-friendly has been a boon for many wheel chair users who could not board the crowded buses or the autorickshaws.
''The Metro is not merely a public transport project but has brought in international standards to areas like construction quality, management techniques and planning in India,'' he said.
Carrying on work with barricades, implementing work without hampering traffic, high standards of discipline and timely delivery have been the cornerstones of the Delhi Metro project, he said.
Paying rich tributes to DMRC managing director E Sreedharan, he said it was because of his ingeniousness that the project has taken off so well and is being replicated by other states.
Speaking on the occasion, DMRC's Chief PRO Anuj Dayal said the film goes behind the scenes for a look at the people and the technology behind one of the biggest infrastructure projects in modern India.
He said the Metro has shown that it is possible to construct a world class facility in India both ahead of time and within budget.
The film will be broadcast on the channel at 2000hrs on Saturday and 0900hrs on September 2.
