Commission unearths encroachment of govt land by bigwigs

Bangalore, Aug 21 (UNI) The A T Ramaswamy Commission, appointed by the Karnataka government to inquire into encroachment of government land, today unearthed encroachment of lands worth Rs 260 crore by bigwigs, including the IT major Wipro Technologies Limited.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Ramaswamy said in Koudenahalli river bed, out of 55 acre, 32 acre had been encroached.

He said the Wipro had allegedly encroached 23 'gunta' of land, worth about Rs 20 crore, United Builders and Developers about three acre and 13 'gunta' of land.

However, the Wipro had expressed its willingness to demolish the compound wall and handover the alleged encroached land to the government.

Earlier, Mr Ramaswamy, along with the officials concerned, inspected the areas around Miller Tank, Kaudenahalli, Chinnappanahalli Poultry town, Kempapura and ordered the officials to evict the encroachers and retrieve the land.
