Chief Secretary served legal notice on Rane's threat issue
Panaji, Aug 21 (UNI) Social activist and spokesman for NGO, 'Utt Goenkara', advocate Aires Rodrigues today sent a legal notice to the Goa Chief Secretary for the alleged failure of the police to take action against the Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane in a criminal case.
In his notice, Mr Rodrigues regretted that no action has been taken on his complaint lodged with the Old Goa Police about receiving a life threat on phone allegedly from Mr Rane on July 31.
Mr Rodrigues apprehended that the threat call was made as he was exposing the alleged misdeeds of Rane through the NGO. The call was traced to be from the mobile phone of Rane's wife Divya Rane.
The police failed to register a case despite Mr Rodrigues' complaint and no suitable action was taken against the couple due to 'political pressure', sources said.
Mr Rodrigues has drawn Chief Secretary's attention in his notice to the Supreme Court directive that the police is bound to register an FIR and investigate on the complaints filed.
Mr Rodrigues said he would be constrained to file a petition in the Panaji bench of the Bombay High Court if he failed to receive a favourable reply from the Chief Secretary in the next three days.
Copies of the notice have been sent to the Director General and the Deputy Inspector General of Police even as Mr Rodrigues has submitted a memorandum to the Governor S C Jamir seeking his intervention for rendering justice.
