Kishanganj, Aug 21 (UNI) Samajwadi Party(SP) leader in Bihar Assembly Gopal Kumar Agrawal today alleged that the state government agencies have failed to check smuggling of spurious and fake fertilisers.

Talking to mediapersons here, the MLA said the agencies were also involved in the racket and were trying to camouflage their inept handling through a 'meaningless device'.

The SP leader came down heavily on the authorities directive to wind up all fertiliser outlets and shops within six km area from Bihar-Nepal border.

''Such a directive was not just intended to cover up their own lapses, but was to create a plethora of problems for the kisans living in the vicinity of the borders along with the small traders,'' Mr Agarwal added.

He also slammed the district authorities for not taking any action against the fertiliser smugglers' syndicates, which were busted with seizure of huge quantities of fake fertilizers.

These fake fertilisers were meant for smuggling into Nepal few weeks back.

He also said the farmers were facing acute hardship following the use of fake fertilisers, besides recent floods that damaged 40 per cent of paddy in this district.
