Wal-Mart's US 1 million dollars grant for Hope Foundation
Mumbai, Aug 20 (UNI) Global super-market giant Wal-Mart announced a grant of US 1.12 million dollars for 'Hope Foundation' today for the uplift of disadvantaged young adults.
The grant will be utilised to set up five 'Industrial Centres of Hope' near the factories of the company's suppliers, stated a release.
Located in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Panipat and Moradabad, the centres will provide primary and English education, vocational training and social skills for disadvantaged young adults.
''At Wal-Mart we believe in supporting local causes that are important to our stakeholders,'' said Wal-Mart (Ethical Standards Programme) Vice President Rajan Kamalanathan.
''India is at cross-roads. It enjoys a booming economy, but there is also another India where young people never go to school or drop out early because they have to help support their families. I am delighted that Wal-Mart has extended its support,'' said Hope Foundation Executive Director Mark Templer.
Hope world-wide is an international NGO whose main priorities are education and training.
US based Wal-Mart stores operate a global chain of discount stores and supercentres, added the release.
