Manipur: Tribal students suspend stir

Imphal, Aug 20: The All Tribal Students Union Manipur(ATSUM) has announced that it will call off the proposed general strike scheduled today as the government has agreed to fulfill most of its demands.

The ATSUM had also decided to call an indefinite economic blockade on the national highways in the state from today. The ATSUM Information and Publicity Secretary Joseph R Hmar said serious discussions were held with the Education Minister L Jayantakumar, Works Minister K Ranjit, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister N Biren and Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii.

ATSUM said it will wait for positive response from the government for about a week and will start a stir if the response was not good. The ATSUM was demanded proper reservation policy and supply of essential items at tribal areas.
