Transit Camps at Kalkaji not to be removed till Aug 22
New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Delhi High Court today deferred the hearing on the sealing/demolition work proposed to be carried out by DDA at the Transit camp of Kalkaji and Govind Puri and verbally assured the lawyer that DDA will not take any action in the meanwhile.
Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Khanna deferred the hearing for two days on the plea that this was a transit camp established by the Government to settle the migrants, who were victims of 1984 riots and the Government cannot suddenly destabilise them.
Senior Lawyer A S Chandiok, appearing for the residents of the Transit Camps, told the Court that the Government was yet to formulate a policy regarding the eviction of such camps as they had been earlier displaced due to the riots. The Government had alloted land to the 1984 riots victims in the year 1984-85 and people had barely established themselves there and now it wants them to vacate or seal their establishments.
Former Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Subash Chopra along with former Councillor Varinder Kasana and other residents were present in the Court today to extend their solidarity with the residents The court has fixed August 22 for hearing the applications of the residents.
