Suspected NLFT militant gunned down

Agartala, Aug 20 (UNI) Security forces today gunned down an NLFT militant at Belcherra under Khowai sub-division of west Tripura district and captured another.

Acting on a tip off that a four-member gang of suspected banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants crossed over to Indian soil from neighbouring Bangladesh, police laid an ambush and challenged the gang after they entered India.

When the militants disobyed the Border Security Force and state police warning and started firing on them, the security forces retaliated, killing one Tinku Debbarma on the spot and captured the other.

Two of the gang, however managed to escape the security dragnet taking advantge of the deep jungle.

A gun and a revolver were recovered from the possession of the dead militant.

The victim was involved in a number of kidnapping and other crimes, sources said adding massive search operation was on to flush out militants from the area.
