Special drive to check mosquito breeding in Punjab
Chandigarh, Aug 20 (UNI) Punjab today launched a special drive to check menace of mosquito breeding by issuing instructions to all medical officers to involve public to make it a "man-based drive".
Speaking on 'World Mosqito Day" here today, Mrs Lakshmi Kanta Chawla, Health and Family Welfare Minister Punjab, said that mosquitoes were not only a 'biting nuisance', they also posed a major health hazard by periodically transmitting diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Yellow fever and Ecephalitis to humans and animals.
She stressed that Mosquito control agencies should take effective steps to check the spread of mosquito menace. Besides, residents could help by controlling mosquitoes around their homes and properties.
Most efficient method of controlling mosquitoes was by reducing the availability of water suitable for the vector's growth, she added.
