Search operations at VIP quarters not politically motivated: Police

Imphal, Aug 20 (UNI) Police today claimed that search operations launched on August 17 at residences of ministers and MLAs in Babupara VIP colony here were not politically motivated.

Imphal West District Police SP Clay Khongsai further stated that 12 militants were nabbed from the official quarters of three Congress MLAs.

The SP said police began operations on the eve of Independence Day which ended in the rounding up of 105 individuals from the quarters of ministers and MLAs. Of them, 12 were detained for further verification.

Congress MLA Bijoy Koijam had alleged that the move was politically motivated after a militant was nabbed from his residence.

Brajabidhu, another MLA, from whose residence eight militants were nabbed, said he had no information that they were militants.
