SC adjourns hearing of a petition in Taj Corridor scandal

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) The Supreme Court today adjourned for two weeks the hearing of an application challenging the order of Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar, refusing to grant sanction for prosecution of State Chief Minister Mayawati in Taj Corridor scandal case.

A Bench comprising Justices S B Sinha, S H Kapadia and D K Jain adjourned the hearing as amicus curiae Krishan Mahajan, who was to provide justification that this court can entertain such application while dealing with the petitions related to environmental pollution around Taj due to the industries in the surrounding areas, failed to appear.

Counsel for Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) Vijay Panjawani submitted before the court that it has already transferred the matter related to the scandal to the competent trial court.

The applicant has challenged the governor's order on the ground that it was in violation of the apex court's order directing the CBI to file the report of the investigating officer before the trial court which will decide whether prima facie case to prosecute Ms Mayawati and her associates under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
