'Samaj Rattan Award' for people from diff walk of life on Rajiv anny

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) People from various walks of life were today awarded "Samaj Rattan Award" by the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee to commemmorate the 63rd Birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Renowned Hindi poet Santosh Anand, Urdu poet Anand Mohan Zutshi, (Gulzar Dehlavi), Advocate of the Government Council, Anwar Masood, Ex. Physician President of India, Hakeem Akhlaq Ahmed, In charge Mother Teresa Home Sister Zino weightlifting champion Garuav Sharma, swimming coach, Shiv Narain, Advocate Om Prakash Sharma Advocate and journalist Sayeed Zahir Ali Bharti were among those honoured with the 'Samaj Rattan Award' by DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma.

Speaking on the function, which saw presence of MLAs Malaram Gangwal, Dr. Bijender Singh, Mahabal Mishra, Surender Pal Singh Bittoo, leader of the opposition in MCD Jai Kishan Sharma, PCC office-bearers Raj Kumar Kohli and PCC secretary Vijay Mohan, Mr Sharma exhorted youth of the country to do constructive work for the development of the country as the best way to perpetuate the memory of the late Bharat Ratna, Rajiv Gandhi, who, as Prime Minister of the India, had ushered the country into a new 21st Century dawn.

Mr Sharma said India was now blessed with a young population as 60 per cent of Indians were below the age of 25 years, which held a great future for the country. He said the best tribute the people of could pay to keep the former prime minister's memory enduring was to harness the talent of the youth and put them into productive use to realise Rajiv Gandhi's dream of making India a modern, developed nation self sufficient in every aspect.

The DPCC chief said Rajiv Gandhi's great effort to give empowerment to women has taken a giant stride now after Congress president Ms Sonia Gandhi succeeded in her resolve to make a distinguished woman leader like Ms Pratibha Patil the President of India.
