Rise in farm labourers and Rural labourers index

Shimla, Aug 20 (UNI) As compared to the month of June this year, the All-India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers (Base-1986-87-100) for July increased by five points and four points respectively to stand at 404 points for both, according to Labour Bureau here today.

The rise and fall in indices varied from state to state. Punjab with 432 points topped the index table whereas Manipur was at the bottom with the index level of 362 points.

In the case of Agricultural Labourers, 17 states reflected an increase in indices ranging between two and nine points, in two states the indices declined by one and two points while in one state the index remained constant.

In case of rural labourers, in 17 states, indices reflected an incease ranging between one and nine points. Again, Punjab was at the top of index table with 433 points whereas Manipur was at the bottom with 363 points.

The indices of Manipur and Orissa registered the highest increase of nine points each for Agricultural Labourers and Rural Labourers mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, arhar dal, onion, vegetables and fruits, bidi, firewood and leather chappal.

On the other hand, the index in respect of Meghalaya registered a fall of two points each for Agricultural and Rural Labourers mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, turmeric, sugar and kerosene oil.

Point-to-point rate of inflation baed on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 7.84 per cent and 7.53 per cent during June to 8.60 per cent and 8.02 per cent respectively during July, respective rates of inflation during July were 6.29 per cent and 5.95 per cent.
