Railways' revenue up 8.75 per cent
New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) The Railways generated Rs 14378.80 crore of revenue earnings from freight traffic during the first four months of the current fiscal as compared to Rs 13222.09 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 8.75 per cent.
The Railways carried 247.05 million tonnes of freight traffic during April-July as compared to 233.21 million tonnes carried during the corresponding period last year, reflecting an increase of 5.93 per cent.
The Net Tonne Kilo Metres (NTKM) went up from 154082 million to 158662 million during the period, registering an increase of 2.97 per cent.
The earnings from freight traffic during July this year were Rs 3482.16 crore compared to Rs 3262.25 crore during the corresponding period last year, showing an increase of 6.74 per cent. The Railways carried 61.80 million tonnes of freight traffic during July this year as compared to 57.37 million tonnes of freight traffic during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 7.72 per cent.
The Net Tonne Kilo Metres (NTKM) went up from 37202 million during July last year to 38790 million during the same month this year, showing an increase of 4.27 per cent.
Of the total earnings during July this year, Rs 1255.35 crore came from transportation of 25.72 million tonnes of coal, followed by Rs 310.80 crore from 4.58 million tonnes of iron ore for exports, Rs 308.03 crore from 6.29 million tonnes of cement and Rs 264.19 crore from 3.07 million tonnes of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL).
In addition, it earned Rs. 222.96 crore from 2.67 million tonnes of foodgrains, Rs 196.52 crore from 3.35 million tonnes of fertilizers, Rs 182.21 crore from 1.70 million tonnes of iron and steel for steel plants, Rs 144.59 crore from 4.17 million tonnes of raw material for steel plants and Rs 597.51 crore from 10.25 million tonnes of other goods.
