Ujjain, Aug 20 (UNI) Students union election for 2007-08 academic session, scheduled to be held on August 22 and 23, has been postponed at local Madhav College, where Prof H S Sabharwal was murdered in student's violence last year.

''The college staff council today unanimously decided to postpone the students union election keeping in view prevailing atmosphere in the wake of Prof Sabharwal's death in students violence last year,'' a college teacher said requesting anonimity.

A large number of students and student leaders had assembled in front of the college since this morning causing traffic blockade.

However, students dispersed and normalcy returned after the declaration of postponement of election, police said.

Prof Sabharwal was lynched to death and the face of another professor was blackened by student leaders at the Madhav College premises on August 26 last year immediately after postponement of the students union elections.

Six leaders of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), including its then state unit president Shashi Ranjan Singh Akela, were facing trial in the Prof Sabharwal murder case and were at present lodged in the central jail here.
