Pooja for close look on what turns people into suicide bombers

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) On a day when the Nation commemmorates the 63rd Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was killed by a LTTE suicide bomber on May 21, 1991, actor-turned filmmaker Pooja Bhatt called for close look on the situation that caused normal men or women to turn almost overnight into suicide bombers.

''Suicide bombers or terrorists is not merely a problem faced by the West. It concerns India too in a very big way as the assassination of the late Rajiv Gandhi shows. In that sense, it is a problem that we in society as well as the authorities have to tackle head on,''she said at a function on the occasion of Sadbhavana Diwas, Rajiv Gandhi's Birth anniversary, where youth from across the country were honoured.

Speaking at the function, organised by the National Students Union of India to showcase the film, Pooja, whose latest directorial venture 'Dhokha' deals with story of police officer, who one day finds that his wife is a suicide bomber, said the problem, whether it be of people becoming suicide bombers or terrorists, somewhere stemmed from the victimisation of minorities in the country.

''When I decided to make 'Dhokha', I wanted to explore why someone would suddenly one day become a suicide bomber or a terrorist. At the same time, the film shows that no matter how you are humiliated, it does not give you a right to become a terrorist or a suicide bomber,''she said in presence of hundreds of students from Delhi University present at the function.

Pooja said her film was a question to the Governments all over the world to examine the root cause of people turning terrorists ''It would force them take a hard look in the mirror,''she said.

On the occasion, a brief capsule of the film 'Dhokha' was shown to the audience.

The film is slated for a release on August 31.
