Order judicial inquiry into police firing on Gujjars: Pilot
New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Mr Sachin Pilot (Cong) today demanded in the Lok Sabha a judicial inquiry into police firing on the agitating Gujjars in Rajasthan who were seeking Scheduled Tribe status to avail of reservation in education and jobs.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr Pilot said 24 people were killed in the police firing, but the Rajasthan government had failed to order a judicial inquiry.
Under similar circumstances in Nandigram (West Bengal) and Khammam (Andhra Pradesh), the state government had instituted judicial inquiry, he said.
The Centre should send a team to Rajasthan to ''punish the guilty'' if the State government refused to order such an inquiry, he said.
It was unfortunate, the Left and other parties had not raised the issue so far.
