NIT Raipur suspends academic activities after students strike

Raipur, Aug 20 (UNI) The National Institute of Technology (NIT) here has suspended academic activities for an indefinite period following strike by students demanding basic infrastructure befitting the stature of the institution.

''We have decided to suspend academic activities and all the students have been asked to vacate the hostel within 24 hours,'' a spokesperson of the NIT said in a statement.

''The management has invited a delegation of the students to come forward and submit a list of their demands but the agitating students failed to turn up,'' the spokesperson said, adding that they were staging demonstration in the campus, disrupting normal functioning of the institute.

According to the agitating students, NIT, Raipur, is lacking even basic infrastructure for academic activities and teachers. Besides, there is no regular director in the institute.
