Mortar attacks kill 12 in Baghdad

Baghdad, Aug 20: A mortar attack killed 12 people and wounded 31 more in the Shi'ite eastern Baghdad district of al-Obeidi on Sunday. According to police, women and children were among the dead and wounded, and some houses in the neighborhood were also damaged. The victims were taken to Ibin al-Nafis and Sadr hospitals. At least four mortars fell on al-Obeidi, near Sadr City, a sprawling Shi'ite slum and stronghold of powerful anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.
