Model Code of Conduct announced for September 7 DUSU polls

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) The Delhi University today announced the ten-point Model Code of Conduct for the September 7 Delhi University Students' Union elections, to ensure fair and transparent polls.

The Election Advisory Committee at its meeting on August 16 approved the guidelines to be adhered by the candidates contesting the polls, University Registrar A K Dubey said.

While pasting of posters, putting up of hoardings or defacement of walls is prohibited, public address system and beating of drums is not allowed inside or in the vicinity of the colleges.

For campaigning, each candidate is allowed only two vehicles and three bonafide students to accompany him and expenditures not exceeding Rs 10,000.

It is mandatory for the candidate to have passed all the papers in the last examinations and have no ''Academic Arrears''.

The Registrar said each elected officer bearer shall be required to submit audited accounts of expenditure within 10 days from the date of declaration of results.

As per the Model Code of Conduct no candidate contesting the elections should have been convicted of any criminal offence by a court or punished by the University under DUSU's Clause 9.

Mr Dubey said any violation of the code of conduct will be constitute as an act of indisclpine as per Ordinance XV (b) of the University.

The last date for receipt of nominations for the election is August 24 and the last date for withdrawal is August 27.

While voting for regular students will be from 0830 hrs to 1130 hrs and, polling for students attending evening classes it will be held from 1600 hrs to 1900 hrs.

Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental has appointed Proctor Gurmeet Singh as the Chief Election Officer.

Chemistry professor J M Khurana will be the Chief Returning Officer and Mr Rajesh Tandon of the Botany Department has been appointed the Additional Returning Officer.
