Meghalaya police opened blank fire

Shillong, Aug 20 (UNI) Meghalaya police resorted to blank firing today to disperse an angry mob, which went on rampage and torched three houses belonging to a tribal family whom they suspected practicing witchcraft.

The incident occurred at Mawbsein village in Ri-Bhoi district, about 50 km from here, when angry villagers torched the house and vehicles of the family, police said.

Police, however, yet to confirm any casualty in the firing.
