Kerala SIT to probe 'hawala' racket.

Kochi, Aug 20 (UNI) The Kerala Government today set up a high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe whether there is any link between 'hawala' operators and politicians, police and other senior officers, the state High Court was informed.

In a statement filed before the court, Director General of Prosecution P G Thampy said the SIT will be headed by IG Vincent M Paul. He will be assisted by P Vijayan IPS and M R Ajith Kumar IPS.

The DGP said a state-level 'hawala' monitoring cell had also been constituted to oversee the hawala cases in the state.

Additional DGP-Intelligence will head the cell.

Expressing satisfaction with the statement, Justice R Basanth closed the case, wherein the court had earlier subjected the police to scathing criticism and observed ''is the administration of justice led by Bosses.'' The court had then directed the DGP to file a statement regarding the investigation into allegations of a multi-crore-rupee 'hawala' racket in the state.
