Srinagar, Aug 20 (UNI) Internet and other services in the Kashmir valley were badly affected today after the optical fibre got cut at Katra near Jammu.

Media organisations, travel agencies, banks and other professionals had a tough time as they failed to access the rest of the world through internet.

A journalist with a leading national daily said he could not file any story due to the problem.

Many customers waited anxiously at different branches of various banks for the internet services to resume.

A travel agent told UNI that he suffered heavy loss due to the disruption in the internet services as he was unable to book online air tickets for several passengers.

A woman employee, who answered the telephone at the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) office here, failed to provide the complete details about the problem.

''We don't know what is the actual problem and when it will be rectified,'' she said.
