Indians form majority work force in UAE: Envoy
Kozhikode, Aug 20 (UNI) Expatriates from India formed 70 per cent of the total work force in the United Arab Emirates outnumbering the local people, UAE Ambassador to India Abdul Ibrahim Al-Zoy Al-Sheihhi said today.
Delivering the valedictory address at a seminar on ''Modern Arabic Literature and Indo-Arabic Relations'' he said this comprised skilled and semi-skilled workers from the country.
Stating that the labourers enjoyed a cordial atmosphere in UAE, he however, said at times the new job seekers faced problmes at the instance of the sponsoring companies.
This happpened because the companies recruited manpower over their actual requirement.
Underlining that the Indo-Arab bilateral ties were improving, particularly in the trade and economic sectors, he said the Indian Government had contributed immensely for the growth of Arabic language and literature in the country.
In a resolution adopted at the seminar, jointly organised by the Department of Arabic, Calicut University and Rouzathul-Uloom Arabic College, the organisers urged the Kerala Government to set up an Arabic Univsersity in line of the existing Sanskrit University in the state.
As many as 300 scholars from various parts of the country participated in the two-day event in which 35 papers of different topics were presented.
