India has made a mark in global IT arena: Murthy

Mumbai, Aug 20: Infosys Technologies Chairman and Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy has said India has made a major mark on the global IT arena on the basis of intellectual capital built around software development, business process engineering and a large pool of highly-skilled technical manpower.

Addressing the 23rd annual get together of the 'Organisation of Plastics Processors of India' (OPPI) on saturday night, chief guest Mr Murthy said ''From computers to laptops to cell-phones to fax-machines, plastics meet the requirement of all IT products. The IT industry has evolved on the platform of Plastics.'' ''Plastics have enabled designing and production of a wide range of hardware and components. Since both plastics and IT are products of modern day innovations, they share a symbiotic relationship in their evolution,'' Mr Murthy pointed out.

He urged all the industries to create more jobs so that the growth rate is improved and the country gets more revenue from the industry sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, OPPI Vice President Shiv Singh Mehta said, During the current academic year, OPPI proposes to conduct school awareness programmes on 'Plastics Waste Management' in various languages in 45 schools.
