Home Ministry discuss security situation in Manipur
New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) The Union Home Ministry today discussed the Security situation in Manipur in view of the arrest of 15 people suspected to be linked with Al-Qaeda by the army at Manipur-Myanmar border areas recently.
The two-hour long high-level meeting was chaired by Home Secretary Madhukar Gupta. The meeting also discussed the developmental issues pertaining to the state.
Apart from the Chief Secretary and DGP of Manipur, representatives of the Army, Central para-military forces, Border Road Organisation and Ministries of Panchayati Raj, Railways, Food&Civil Supplies, Petroleum and Finance attended the meeting, Home Ministry sources said today.
The suspected terrorists were arrested at Moreh, Chandel district, on August 17. They were from Bangladesh and Myanmar and interrogations were still going on. Foreign currency and documents from several countries were also recovered from them.
Meanwhile, the Self-Styled Commander-in-Chief of a new militant outfit, the United Bengal Revolutionary Army was also nabbed at Silchar, Assam recently. Three cadres of People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), who were involved in collecting funds, were also nabbed from Thoubal district yesterday.
