HC summons Mayawati govt's action plan

Lucknow, Aug 20 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today summoned on September 25 the action plan of the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh regarding construction of a multi-storey parking lot in the busy Hazratganj by shifting a mahila thana and a fire station near Janpath.

A two-judge Bench comprising Justices U K Dhawan and S N Shukla passed the order on a PIL filed by the Nishatganj Resident Welfare Society.

On behalf of the petitioner, advocate B K Singh told the court that the BSP government was planning to raze the Hazratganj police station, mahila thana and fire station to construct a multi-storey parking lot near Janpath. It is not in the public interest as there is already too hustle-bustle at Hazratganj.

The court further directed the Lucknow Development Authority, UP Housing Board, PWD and Irrigation Department to clear all encroachments in the capital with help of police.
