Exchange of fire between guards and poachers, two injured

Mysore, Aug 20 (UNI) Two Forest Guards were injured in an exchange of fire between the forest officials and poachers at Nagarahole forest range, near Antarasanthe in Mysore District in the early hours of today.

Official sources said on getting information from one of the five squads on night duty, Deputy Conservator of Forests Singh launched an operation. On seeing the squad, the poachers started firing, which the guards returned. However, the culprits managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The injured, who sustained bullet injuries were first treated at H D Kote government hospital and shifted to the K R Hospital here.

Their condition was stated to be out of danger.

Last week, a local tribal was killed in an exchange of fire between forest guards and poachers.
