CONCOR cold chain project launched

Chandigarh, Aug 20 (UNI) The cold chain project of Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) went on steam adjacent to the food park developed by Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) at Rai in Sonepat district of Haryana.

CONCOR is a Central government undertaking with the Ministry of Railways.

Mr V N Mathur, Member Railway Traffic Board and Chairman of CONCOR inaugurated the project yesterday in the presence of a large number of senior functionaries of the Corporation and the entrepreneurs of the region.

The prestigious project, which is of great importance for the farming community, was revived due to relentless efforts by HSIIDC and the state government, an official spokesman said.

The state-of-the-art project with a capital cost of Rs 80 crore will provide logistic support to the Food Park at Rai which has been developed under assistance from Ministry of Food Processing Industry.

Apart from handling frozen products, a cold chain involves the management and distribution of fresh produce under controlled temperature and controlled atmosphere, so as to enhance shelf life, preserve quality and prevent wastage right from the post harvest stage to the retail end.

CONCOR will undertake to provide logistic services to the produce under controlled conditions between the production centres, cold stores and retail outlets.
