CLP denies Brinda's allegations against AP Govt
Hyderabad, Aug 20 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Congress Legislature Party today denied the allegations of Communist Party of India(Marxist) (CPI-M) Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat that the Congress Government in the state had failed to fulfill the promises made in the election manifesto.
Talking to newspersons here, Government Chief Whip N Kiran Kumar Reddy said the CPI(M) leaders were making allegations against the state government without verifying the facts.
Alleging that the CPI(M) leaders were trying to distort the facts, Mr Reddy said the state government had done work, far exceeding the promises made in the manifesto during the elections.
Giving various figures on different schemes, he said the government had proposed to construct eight lakh houses every year, as promised during the elections. It would also construct 60 to 65 lakh houses in five years at the rate of 12 lakh houses per year, in view of the demand for the houses from the poor people, he added.
He said the government had already constructed 12 lakh houses during the last two years and under 'Indiramma' scheme, construction of 27 lakh houses would be completed in few months. It had distributed 4.90 lakh house sites during the last three years by purchasing land from private parties, he added.
The Congress leader said the government had given enjoyment certificates for another nine lakh house sites during the last three years. It had also distributed 4.37 lakh lands to the landless poor during this period, he added.
Mr Reddy said the government had earmarked Rs 500 crore to purchase lands to provide house sites in the State.
He alleged that the CPI(M) had no policy and were adopting double standards. ''They are not talking anything about the CPI(M) ruled states, where they have not taken up any housing schemes for the poor,'' he added.
He said the state government had given ration cards to 1.58 crore families and decided to provide pension to 50-lakh people, whereas the CPI(M)-led Left Front Government in West Bengal in the last three decades had provided only 1.85 lakh pension to the people. The CPI(M) leaders were making allegations only to gain political mileage, he added.
