BJP dares Left withdraw support to Centre
Vijayawada, Aug 20 (UNI) BJP Andhra Pradesh unit President Bandaru Dattatreya today dared the Left parties to withdraw support to United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government over Indo-US nuclear deal, if it was really concerned about country's sovereignty.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the BJP would launch a campaign against the Deal as it (the deal) would mortgage the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
The CPI (M) was engaging in double standards on the nuclear deal to keep intact its vote bank. There was no congruence between the Left's opposition and action on the issue as the CPI (M) and the CPI opposed a debate on the 123 Agreement under sections 184 and 193, which entailed voting.
He said ''if the Left parties are so sincere on country's sovereignty, they should agree on a debate in Parliament under a voting clause.'' The Left leaders, instead of making statements on putting on hold the deal and setting up an expert committee, should defeat the nuclear deal in Parliament.
''To keep the BJP out of power at the Centre, the Left parties were continuing support. The party was watching the developments,'' he added.
