Vijayawada, Aug 20 (UNI) Former Union Minister and Andhra Pradesh BJP Chief Bandaru Dattatreya today asked the Congress-led Government in the state to distribute assigned lands to Dalits and the poor in the state instead of handing them over to influential persons.

Addressing the press here, Mr Dattatreya alleged the government had allotted 350 acre of farm lands belonging Dalits to a private cement company at Rentichintala in Guntur District, which was wrong.

Similarly, at Chinnaganjam in Prakasam District about 2,000 acre of lands was distributed to big companies.

The BJP had received encouraging response from people of four districts for houses and house sites. They will be submitted to mandal revenue officers (MROs) for sanction after a survey.

He said the party would lay siege to the collector's office if no proper action was forthcoming from the officials.

Mr Dattatreya also claimed as much as 44 lakh acre of assigned lands in the state was in 'benami' names.Even as the government gave thousands of acre of assigned lands to four big IT companies, it had totally failed on giving pattas and houses to the poor.

He also said the government was unnecessarily spending Rs 16 crore of public money towards 'Indiramma' (scheme) logo which could have been utilised for construction of another 50,000 houses.
