AP Minister joins issue with TDP on housing programme

Hyderabad, Aug 20 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister K Rosaiah today disputed the opposition Telegu Desam Party(TDP)'s claim that it was the previous Chandrababu Naidu Government which had taken up weaker section housing programme on a large scale.

Talking to newspersons here, he recalled that the Congress during the tenure of late Brahmananda Reddy had initiated the programme for the poor.

Nowhere in the country, a huge sum of Rs 5000 crore had been allocated for the programme, as was done by the State Government this year, he claimed, adding that the Rajasekhara Reddy Government was in the process of constructing over 60 lakh houses to the poor, as against 40 lakh promised in the election manifesto.

Mr Rosaiah alleged that Mr Naidu had usurped power from the actor-turned-politician and TDP founder N T Rama Rao and was claiming credit for welfare schemes initiated by the latter.

The minister said the Andhra Pradesh State Public Service Commission would shortly issue notification to fill up 11,640 vacancies in various Government departments.
