About 700 horses to participate in the Mysore racing season

Mysore, Aug 20 (UNI) More than 700 horses are expected to participate during the 20-day Mysore racing season that begins here on August 23 with an increased stakes amount of Rs 5.04 crore.

Briefing newspersons here Mysore Race Club Chairman Chaduranga Kanthataraj Urs said today that trainers from Bangalore and other racing centres in the country would be bringing their wards for the races. All jockeys licensed by the Bangalore Club as well as jockeys of other centres would be seen in action.

He said that two new sweepstakes races for the first time in Mysore racing calendar would be run during the season. This included Maharaja's Gold Cup and the Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship.

The new grand stand was expected to be completed by September.

The Karnataka government had allotted 15 acres of the land near the race course for the construction of the new horse stables and it would be ready by next year. The present stable would be handed over to the Abdul Nazir Sab Rural Development Institute, he said.

The important race days are, Mysore million (grade III)on August 24, Karnataka Racehorse Owners' Association Mysore 1000 guineas on September 14, Maharaja's gold cup, September 21, Fernhill's Palace Mysore 2000 guineas 2007 on October five, Governor's Gold Cup on October 12, F K Irani Memorial Gold Cup on October four, the Mysore Dasara sprint championship on October 19, Daisy Appoo Cup on Sunday 28 along with the Mysore Derby on the same which carries stake among of Rs 36 lakhs for the winner.
