Vidarbha: 20 debt-ridden farmers commit suicide
Nagpur, Aug 20: As many as 20 debt-ridden farmers have committed suicide in Vidarbha in the last three days alone, taking the total toll this year to 593 so far.
According to a voluntary organisation, Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti (VJAS), the 20 farmers who ended their lives included four each from Yavatmal and Akola districts, three each from Washim and Amravati, two each from Buldhana and Gadchiroli, and one each from Chandrapur and Wardha districts.
With this, the number of farmers who have ended their lives this year, has touched 593, VJAS said in a statement.
These include 70 in January, 86 in February, 82 in March, 90 in April, 79 in May, 68 in June, 64 in July and 54 this month, the statement added.
