Unprecedented security for JK Assembly session from tomorrow
Srinagar, Aug 19 (UNI) Security forces have again been put on high alert in the Kashmir valley to foil any militant attempt to carry out blasts and hand grenade attacks on the eve of week-long session of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and council from tomorrow.
A Similar alert was sounded in the entire state, particularly in the Kashmir valley last week to thwart any militant attempt to cause disturbances on or before Independence Day. However, the day passed off peacefully throughout the state.
A UNI correspondent who visited the Legislative complex on the bank of Jehlum river near here today saw Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel clad in bullet proof jackets and holding automatic weapons guarding the entire area.
Two bullet proof bunker vehicles were parked on both sides of the main gate of the complex and more than a dozen CRPF personnel guarding the road, keeping a close watch on pedestrians and passing vehicles.
Besides about 20 feet high strong iron gate, there are two iron drop gates inside the complex, guarded by sharp shooters, to foil any attempt by Fidayeen (members of suicide squad) to storm the complex as was witnessed on October 1, 2001 when more than 45 people were killed after a fidayeen blew himself up with an explosive laden vehicle while another managed to enter the complex on the last day of the session.
Sharp shooters, holding automatic weapons, were also seen deployed on the high rise towers inside the complex, keeping a close watch on Budshah bridge, Jehangir Chowk, Shergrahi and Jehlum river with the help of binoculars.
