Jalandhar, Aug 19 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal (1920) has urged Punjab Governor Lt Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues to impose a ban on tobacco and other drugs in the state.
After Chandigarh was declared a 'Tobacco Free Region', SAD (1920) president Ravi Inder Singh in a letter to the Governor has sought similiar ban on tobacco and other drugs in the state.
He said that the ban in Chandigarh would help in improving the health of the citizens of the 'City Beautiful' and could be expanded to prevent drug abuse.
The SAD (1920) president said that Guru Gobind Singh had also described the use of tabacco as ''bajjar kureth'' meaning cardinal sin.
