Rivers' start wreaking havoc again in UP; toll at 210
Lucknow, Aug 19 (UNI) With monsoon bursting with all fury in the hilly areas of the neighbouring Nepal and Uttarakhand, swelling rivers have started wreaking havoc once again in parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Due to release of 90,000 cusec water in Ganga at Haridwar, a red alert had been sounded in several villages of Jyotiba Phulenagar.
Over three lakh standing crop in more than 2,500 villages had been destroyed in Basti, Siddharthnagar, Gonda, Sravasti, Faizabad, Barabanki, Sitapur, Farrukhabad, Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Badaun and Jyotiba Phulenagar districts.
A report from Bareilly said due to incessant downpour in the hilly areas and also release of thousands of cusecs water from Uttarakhand, Sharda and Ramganga have started playing havoc in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri and Rampur respectively.
Besides, a red alert had been sounded in several villages of Aonla tehsil in Bareilly.
The 40-year-old Mehsera bridge on the Gorakhpur-Sonauli National Highway, which connects Gorakhpur with the neighbouring Himalayan nation of Nepal, was damaged following overflowing of the Rohin river.
Meanwhile, the toll, due to rain-triggered incidents, mounted to 210, following deaths of 17 more people in the last 24 hrs at Moradabad, Basti, Gorakhpur, Bareilly and Gonda.
