Rains and overcast sky make weather pleasant in northwest

Chandigarh, Aug 19 (UNI) Rains and overcast sky in many places in the northwest region provided relief to people from heat and humidity.

During the past 24 hours, many parts of Punjab were lashed by rains with Nangal Dam region witnessing 29.2 mm, Ranjit Sagar dam 45 mm and Shahpur Kandi 58.2 mm, of rainfall.

In Haryana, Karnal witnessed 32.2 mm, Nilokadi 15.4 mm and Ambala 3.4 mm of rainfall.

People in City Beautiful, Chandigarh, enjoyed a pleasant Sunday with intermittent rains and cloudy sky providing a respite from yesterday's blazing Sun.

In Himachal Pradesh, most places were lashed by showers. Shimla recorded a rainfall of 6.7 mm, Una 39 mm, Sujanpur Tira 27.6 mm, Kasaul 11 mm and Guler 10.4 mm.

In Jammu and Kashmir, 42 mm rainfall was recorded at Basauli while in Patti it was 46.4 mm and in Bhund 4.8 mm.

The weatherman has forecast showers and thundershower in many places in Himachal, Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.

There was a possibility of heavy rainfall in high reaches of Himachal Pradesh, in eastern parts of Punjab and northwestern regions of Haryana, the Met office said.
