Pressurised PM pondering to resign: Mulayam
Farrukhabad, Aug 19 (UNI) Denouncing the Congress-led UPA regime at the Centre for the 123 Indo-US nuke deal, principal opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today asserted that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was pondering to resign due to the oppositions pressure mounting on him over the deal.
''The left parties, UPA's main supporters, have already warned the government to choose between the power and agreement, which has mounted unusual pressure on Dr Singh. Therefore, he is pondering on handing over his resignation,'' Mr Yadav said while addressing a gathering in Rajepur town here in wake of the forthcoming Farrukhabad bypoll.
''After announcement of the UP assembly poll results, I decided not to react on any issue till six months. But, I was forced to speak on the nuke deal. The US cannot be trusted. It did a huge bombarding in Iraq, which had neither taken place in any of the two world wars. Sadly, no one in the country possesses the courage to raise voice against America, '' he observed.
Firing a salvo at the ruling BSP government in UP, he alleged that instead of creating an equity-based society, Chief Minister was Mayawati is leaving no stone unturned to benefit only a particular section of the society. ''She has done injustice to girls with modest means by scrapping the Kanya Vidhya Dhan (KVD) scheme started during my regime,'' he said.
Reproaching the state government for its new Agriculture Establishment and Distribution policy, the SP leader claimed that the policy would adversely affect 12 crore farmers, who would be forced to commit suicide.
