Police lathicharge on Brahmin Rally, injure over a dozen
Jaipur, Aug 19 (UNI) Police resorted to lathicharge on a reservation rally in the city, injuring more than a dozen people here today.
President of the Sarva Brahmin Mahasabha Suresh Mishra said a vehicle rally was taken out from the collectorate at 1100 hrs in support of reservation to Brahmins. About 300 four wheelers and 500 two wheelers participated in the rally.
The rally was stopped by the police near the Ajmer Bridge. When the rallists insisted on proceeding towards Civil Lines to give a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the police resorted to lathicharge.
Mr Mishra, who himslef suffered a head injury, alleged that the police resorted to indiscriminate force on the rallyists including women. They also broke the window panes of the vehicles. Some police personnel were also injured in the incident.
