People will teach CM a lesson: CPI(M)

Vijayawada, Aug 19 (UNI) If the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh fails to distribute free land among the poor, people of the state would teach a befitting lesson to Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in the next Assembly election, Communist Party of India (M) Politburo member B V Raghavulu said today.

Speaking at a meeting, organised by the Left parties as part of their week long campaign on land struggle, he said the Left parties demanded the government to implement the Koneru Rangarao committee recommendations on land distribution issue. Even after 120 days of their land struggle, the state government was not implementing it, he alleged.

The Left parties had met Dr Reddy and the Cabinet ministers several times to submit their views on the recommendations, but the government was delaying the implementation.

He alleged that the Congress government in the state was trying to 'suppress' the agitation by registering cases against the Left leaders.

Referring to the Congress ministers remarks that the Maoists were behind the Mudigonda firing, in which seven people were killed, he claimed that though the people were agitating peacefully, the police opened fire with AK-47 deliberately, without giving proper warning.

Mr Raghavulu said the Left parties were demanding the state government to appoint an ombudsman for checking the irregularities in the ongoing Housing Programmes in the state besides appointment of a commission for implementation of the Koneru Rangarao Committee recommendations with statutory powers.

The national party leaders would take part in their second phase of Bhuporatam begining from August 22, he said.

Referring to Indo-US nuclear deal, Mr Ragahavulu said if the deal was implemented it would harm the interests of the country.

The Left leaders A B Bardhan, Sitaram Yechury and Prakash Karat would participate in the anti-campaign against the Indo-US nuclear deal from September 4 in the state, he added.
