Mohali, Aug 19 (UNI) A three-year-old boy, diagnosed with a hole in the heart when two months old, underwent successful open heart as well as neurosurgery in a pretigious private hospital here.

Son of very poor parents living in Ferozepur, Laksh, underwent surgery at Fortis Hospital which joined hands with Rotary Club to provide free surgery and treatment to the child.

The open heart surgery was conducted by Dr. T S Mahant, Executive Director, Cardiac Surgery, Fortis Hospital Mohali. However, abnormal behaviour by Laksh after the open heart surgery led to the discovery of a blood clot and cerebral edema.

Laksh was examined by the neurosurgery department and Dr V K Jain, Director Neurosurgery, Fortis Hospital operated upon Laksh immediately, thus saving his life.

As the Rotary project could provide funds only for heart related surgeries, the Fortis management decided to bear the cost of the entire neurosurgery procedure, as part of its social commitment.

"I never been so happy in the last two and a half years. I had given up all hopes of my son eating, walking and talking like other three year olds," Mrs. Sunita Monga, mother of Laksh, said.
