NSA against social worker revoked
Lucknow, Aug 19 (UNI) The Mayawati government has directed the Sonebhadra district administration to revoke the National Security Act (NSA) imposed on social worker Roma.
Besides, the BSP government asked the administration to explain the circumstances under which this ''baseless'' and ''unnecessary'' act was undertaken.
The government, through various sources, had come to know that the district administration did not take proper view of the activities of those, working for the rights of the Dalits, forest people (vanvasis) and tribal women.
Ms Roma, a National Forum for Forest People and Forest worker, was arrested 15 days back and the NSA was slapped on her for supporting the Dalit and tribal women movement like Kol, Angaria and Kharwar.
Fighting for their rights here, prominent social worker associated with the 'Narmada Bachao Andolan' Ms Medha Patkar, former Lucknow University VC prof Rooprekha Verma along with several others raised this issue through media yesterday.
