Patna, Aug 19 (UNI) Congress today blamed the Nitish government for being ''insensitive'' towards the plight of flood victims and said the relief work taken up in the flood hit areas was 'insufficient'.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Digvijay Singh, who is also in-charge of Bihar, told newspersons here that the relief materials were not reaching the right hand and the relief camps had been set up just for the names' sake.

Flanked by AICC secretary Parvez Hashmi and senior leaders of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee, Mr Singh requested the government to accelarate the relief distribution work. He also asked the government to ensure supply of kerosene oil and 100 kg of monthly food grains to every flood affected family.

He alleged that Mr Kumar who used to be popular as a ''sensitive'' man now stands exposed as he enjoyed his foreign trip at the most critical time when the state was passing through the worst ever flood situation.

Taking a pot shot at the state government, he said the flood affected people were forced to live in constraints and the government had not taken pain to provide them the basic relief materials like polythene sheets, readymade eatables, food grains, fuel and essentials. Boats and motorboats too were insufficient to cater to the needs of the flood hit areas, he pointed out.

Later, Mr Singh led a delegation of the party and handed a memorandum to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and apprised him with the actual situation of the flood hit areas.

Meanwhile, a coordination committee of the party also held its meeting during the day and resolved to coordinate between the state government and the Central government for the distribution of relief materials.

Earlier, two separate teams -- one headed by Mr Digvijay Singh and the other by Mr Hashmi made extensive tour of the flood hit districts of Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Khagaria, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj and East and West Champaran to take stock of the relief distribution.
