Militants bid on Karbi Anglong relief camp foiled
Guwahati, Aug 19 (UNI) Security forces foiled another attack on Hindi speaking migrants when a Karbi militant was gunned down, near a relief camp for the community in Borlungphur early this morning.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police and CRPF was carrying out a combing operation at the Langcholiet area near Borlungphur, about 25 km from district headquarters Diphu.
A group of five to six KLNLF militants opened fire on the security forces. The fire was returned in which a rebel was gunned down. Others, however, managed to escape.
An IED, a .22 pistol and camouflage were found from the spot.
The encounter took place near a relief camp where villagers, terrorised after the recent spate of killings of Hindi-speaking people in the district, were sheltered.
Police suspect that the militants were planning to attack the relief camp.
