Left should specify points of objection on nuke deal: Digvijay

Patna, Aug 19 (UNI) AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh today asked the CPI(M) to specifically raise its points of objection over the Indo-US nuclear deal, instead of criticising it as a whole, only because it is ''allergic'' to America.

Mr Singh told newspersons here that Congress was ''solidly behind'' the deal and said that the Left parties were making a ''hue and cry'' on the political front over the deal. He asked the Left to have specific objections to the deal and alleged that the CPI(M) was pre-determined to discard the deal.

The Congress leader, however, said that instead of misleading the people by raising the issue of national sovereignty, the Left parties should discuss the points of objections with an open mind.

Mr Singh ruled out that the proposed deal would affect the countrys sovereignty and challenged the Left to reveal how it would affect the nations freedom.

Regarding threats of CPI(M) for going to any extent of stalling the related bill in Parliament, he said the Congress would try to clear the misgivings of the Left parties on the civilian nuclear agreement.

On reported threats of withdrawal of support by the CPI(M) and subsequently forcing the nation into mid-term poll, Mr Singh categorically stated that Congress was never scared of elections and was always prepared for it. He, however, asserted that such a situation was not round the corner.
